Disclosure & Barring Services (DBS)

Relevant Expertise

Working with Schools Ltd has been providing a disclosure service since the early days of the Criminal Records Bureau, now renamed the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The wealth of experience we have gained from being there right from the start enables us to provide an honest, well-respected, fast and friendly service. We act as administrative intermediaries for the DBS and provide checks for a wide range of clients including the Education, Social Care, Arts & Theatrical, Transport, Construction and Service sectors.

STANDARD and ENHANCED Level checks are available and all of our Counter-signatories are fully trained and vetted by the DBS.

Our specialist Vetting Service provides a solution to your recruitment needs and assists you to make quick but sound appointment decisions.

As part of our service we provide:-

  • GUIDANCE on Regulated Activities, Barring Decisions and Risk Assessments
  • TRAINING on application form completion, identity checking
  • ON-LINE ACCESS - we can track the progress of your application and provide you with the direct email address of the member of our team dealing with your forms
  • WRITTEN RECORDS – detailed written and computerised records are kept of all the applications we process and to whom we have revealed disclosure information.

Customers are provided with a written agreement reflecting the scope of the services we provide and full details of the fee structure.

Responsibilities

Working with Schools Ltd complies fully with the DBS Code of Practice. Disclosure information is stored safely and securely in line with the Handling and Storage Policy and when passing on disclosure information we observe the proper security procedures and mark envelopes “Strictly Private & Confidential” to a named addressee.

Guidance is offered on the sensitive issue of the recruitment of Ex-Offenders and the relevant policy is provided as standard practice.

Establishing the true identity of Applicant can often be difficult but we don’t cut corners and adhere strictly to the new evidence checking guidelines introduced in May 2012. We have appointed an external validation company to meet the requirements of the “Route Two” check and will undertake this on your behalf if this approach is needed.
